I will be musing about my family, sewing projects, interior design and my obsession with nail polish. Sounds kind of schizophrenic I know, but these are all things that fall into the "love of my life" category. I am happy that you are here, and I hope that you will stay. If you have any comments, or suggestions (constructive only) I would love to hear from you.

While I was away from bloggerland, I fell in love! I fell hard and quick for Buxom Lips Lipgloss! This is no small feat for me since I don't wear any makeup with the exception of my beloved nailpolish. I don't even know how to apply makeup!

I was in the city with Schnookie and my sister in law, Biker Girl, we happened into Bare Essentuals, my SIL was getting her face done and while I was bored to death I was there for moral support.

I tried to stay busy and moving, because if I stopped moving, I am sure I would have been wrestled into chair and made over. Across the room I saw the coolest packaging. I am a sucker for packaging, yep I am one of those girls! Lol! I really liked Brandi's box I liked her box better than all of the others because she rocked a fierce Afro and since I am all about natural hair, I bought it! Crazy I know, but that's how I decided on my first color of Buxom Lipgloss!

And since I spent the money I had to use it. And use it I did. I almost used that bottle right up, I was hooked. I mentioned to Schnookie how much I loved this Lipgloss and just look at what he did!

I swear i love that man! This doesn't include the four I am carrying in my handbag. Lol! Schnookie picks on me relentlessly about that, but hey a girl needs variety!

I love everything about this gloss. It's not sticky or gummy feeling. It doesn't cake up on my lips at all. The box says that it's a plumping gloss, I haven't noticed any plumping but I have noticed less lines and I have no dryness at all. The colors are universally flattering and they offer just the right amount of color and coverage. The cooling, tingling sensation takes some getting used to, but once I did I really like it now. It also has a nice vanilla scent.

Ms. B gave her seal approval, which is really saying something since she's so finicky!

(p.s. Please excuse the mess in the background. We are still settling in! )

Musings Happen,

JennyKaye
- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
JennyKayehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14820299470855448388noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3650219566293593316.post-80254102093901052932010-10-30T21:55:00.001-04:002010-10-30T21:55:32.563-04:00I'm Baaaaaack! So I know I've been missing in action and I am terribly sorry! A lot had happened in our lives. I am not even sure where to start.....so I guess I'll start at the beginning. In July, I relocated for a potentially good job (the jury is still out on this) to New York. I was all alone and probably a little depressed for almost 2 months before Schnookie and Gouda joined me. But all is well again and I'm back in the blogger groove.

I miss my mom, dad and sisters desperately but we hope to see them in December for Christmas.

We have been settling into our new lives pretty well except getting used to the change in weather has been tricky.

We are living in A brownstone which has been in Schnookie's family for many many years. It needs some TLC but we are up to the challenge!

So stay tuned for updates on the job, the new city life, renovations to the new house, and of course all things nail polish related!

Musings Happen,

JennyKaye
- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
JennyKayehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14820299470855448388noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3650219566293593316.post-69824691205125716972010-07-21T20:14:00.000-04:002010-07-21T20:15:04.190-04:00Slummin in FlatbushI can't even begin to describe how good the food is in Brooklyn. Please forgive me!

I finally somewhat unpacked, if my mother could see my living room now, she would have a fit! Luckily she always calls before she comes over. LOL! I managed to dig my camera out of the mountain of luggage and clean laundry, I have just been so unmotivated to put things away, I am so not setting a good example for Gouda, I gotta get back on track. Anyway, I wanted to share the rest of our pictures with you all. I hope that you enjoy!
Talk about one stop shopping. Look at closely at the sign, a full set is $14.99, a fill is $11.00 and the part that's flipped up says that a pedicure is $11.99! On my first trip to New York, I thought that this shop was unique, but there are at least 3 others like it on one block! I love this city!

I thought that I was finished with requests from Gouda for a while, but she informed me just last night that her 7th grade style was going to involve a lot of hats in different colors. I better start looking for patterns! She's not much for cleaning up, and since I am sort of a neat freak, we make a good kitchen duo.

She wanted to fry catfish, so since I can eat seafood all day long, I said sure. So off to the market we went.

Don't you just love her ensemble? I swear I don't let her leave the house like this. Why the red towel you might ask. According to Gouda, all great chef's have a towel close by and you can't get any closer than your shoulder.

Gouda not only loves to cook, she also loves the camera! This was my NOTD for almost this whole week. I wore this combo as a pedicure too. (Thanks Schnookie for taking the glitter off of my toes). I swear if he didn't agree to do it, I would have <strike>passed out</strike> blacked out from bending over.

I really like everything about Orly, the brush, the bottle, the cap, and most importantly the application. I used two thin coats of Orly Charged Up and added 2 thin coats of FingerPaints Easel-Y-Entertained. This combo wore like iron. I almost had to chisel it off, but with pure acetone and felt, I didn't have to resort to hardware!

I had an interview on Friday and a second interview on Monday. I decided to wear Essie Chinchilly, I feel like it's somewhat of a neutral, but not your average run of the mill boring neutral!

I really like this color and I understand from All Lacquered Up that it is quite similiar to Lippmann Collection Waking Up In Vegas. I don't know have the Lippmann, although since I love this mushroomy gray type of color, I am sure that I will end up with it soon.

The application was spot on, not troubles at all I used two coats. I also love Essie's brush, it's so easy for me to control, which means that I usually have minimum clean up afterwards.
She likes to challenge me in everything creative. Which in all honesty I appreciate. Because usually in the end, I have completed something that I am really proud of, this scarf is one such thing.

As you all know I am new to crocheting, but unlike most newbies I don't know my limitations, I am willing to jump in feet first. Luckily with crocheting, if you mess up, it's a whole lot easier to pull out stitches, then it is in sewing. While we were in the hospital, I tried to keep busy, so I handed Gouda, one of my pattern books, and told her to pick out a scarf, well she picked out the curly scarf. At first glance, I thought that it was going to be harder than it really was. I stitched up this scarf, in about a day and a half and I only had to pull out stitches twice! WOOHOO!

Things have been really hectic around here. School is almost done for the year! Thank Goodness, I didn't know if we were going to make it, but we did and Gouda made all A's and B's. We are so proud of her.

As I mentioned in my post a couple of days ago, Schnookie had surgery on the 1st. He had a relapse and had to go back into the hospital over the weekend. I am tremendously happy to report that he is once again home and on the mend. The pain meds knock him out, but he is taking fewer than he was a few days ago. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

I did manage to polish my nails late last week, while Schnookie was dosing and I finished my crochet hat and scarf. I am now working on a new hat and a curly scarf for Gouda. Of course they will be pink, as this is her signature color.....LOL!!

Anyway, I don't have much longer, I am cooking dinner and waiting for my base coat to dry. I should be back on schedule, and back to regular blog posts!

Mac Scorcher I wore this for almost 4 days, and I had no chip wear. I love Mac nail polishes. I also bought In the Buff, I haven't even swatched this one yet. I have to apologize for the poor quality, I think that my camera, may need hospice, I am working on getting a new one, please bear with me. Application on this was kind of touch and go, I needed three coats to even it out. My picture is leaning a little orange, but it does have a lot of pink in it as well. I'll redo this mani later next week and try to get better pictures.

This is my finished hat and scarf. I made both out of 100% wool. Wool is nice, but it can be rough on the fingers. I think that I may prefer really soft yarn, but I am still a newbie to crocheting and yarn.

So Sorry for my absence the past few days. Things at JennyKaye's have been rough this past week. Schnookie had surgery on Tuesday and thankfully everything with the surgery went well, but he did come out of it with a new issue that according to his fabulous Orthopedic Doctor will work itself out in the next few days.

Getting to the point of the surgery has really been trying, but now that the surgery is over, it's been well worth the wait. I am so excited and happy for him that he won't be in pain (much longer). I have also been doing a lot of thinking, as I have practically moved into the hospital (Gouda flat out refused to leave on Tuesday so she has been camping out as well). It's times like this that you really start to think about relationships, especially those with your family. Our family has been great and it really makes me thankful that we are near them again.

Well we have been officially discharged so I need to start gathering things together and get Schnookie ready to go home!

I'll be back later on today, with my finished crochet scarf and better pictures of my hat!
I Never Win Anything! So I have become a Twitter nut! I check in at least twice a day, and about a week ago I caught a contest from Zoya . If I remember correctly the question was what are your favorite things to do in the summer. I answered: going on a cruise, hanging with fam and trying to stay cool. Nothing terribly special about the answer, right? But I won!!!! Well I was one of three winners, but still!!!!!! I got to pick one polish and I didn't even have to think about it, I picked Jolene a bright (not neon) Barbie pink! I can't wait to wear her.
LOL!

I have been craving Deborah Lippmann's Between the Sheets since it came out, and I finally caved when I saw Evil Angel's swatch. Lucky for me, Beauty.com had a 20% off sale, so I jumped on BTS and Waking Up In Vegas (which is backordered). Also if you haven't heard, Deborah Lippmann is going to have some really great blingtastic polishes coming out for Fall and the Holidays!
I am going to keep the commentary short today, I am working on a crochet sampler of all the stitches I have learned so far for class on Thursday. Although I am probably going to have to go in on Monday for help with this stupid flower! LOL!

Anyway I ran into Sally's because, well because I had a coupon and I couldn't let it go to waste. I picked up 4 more of the new FingerPaints.

Sapphire Shimmer, Hue Rang, Easel-y Entertained and Louvre This Pink

I really like FingerPaints polishes, application is usually very good and I really like the handle and the brush length. Although I did experience some difficulty with the application of Louvre This Pink. It applied a little streaky and kind of gunky. I added 3 drops of thinner and it wasn't gunky/gloopy anymore but it was still streaky, so I used 3 thin coats and this evened out the streakiness. I love the color and I am really digging the cream finish.........................

Today was my very first crochet class! I scoured the internet for hours for a good class, with a teacher who could teach left handed crocheting. I finally found one and let me tell you she is the best! I actually left the store, feeling confident and drum roll please.....................................crocheting with my RIGHT HAND! Now to everyone that knows me this is astonishing, especially since my right hand is really only used as an accessory to my left hand, but as Sandy explained, my right hand is really only holding the hook while my left hand does all of the work. Which after today, makes perfect sense. Of course I will never hear the end of this from my mother, who tried (in her own special way) to teach me. In my quest to learn how to crochet, I found out that Charlotte has some really great local yarn stores. As much as I love Maryjo's Fabrics, I think she may have a run for her money with the LYS. And if you know me then you know I couldn't leave Charlotte Yarn

without making a purchase. This is a darling LYS with a beautiful variety of yarns. Remy and Sandy are the best. I felt at home immediately upon entering the shop. Sandy worked with me one on one for well over two hours, she was so patient and kind. I really enjoyed today, and can't wait for my class tomorrow.
Gouda and I went to the mall so that she could spend her gift certificate at the Sanrio store.

Please understand that I don't usually go to mall salons, so this was big for me. I have been nursing a crack on my middle finger of my left hand. It's a pretty deep crack so if it were to break it would be quite painful. I have tried everything; gel resin, silk wrap, Orly repair kit, plain nail glue and nothing seems to work.

So with great reluctance and because it was there I went in, and let me tell you I should have turned right around and left, but I didn't I trudged on.

The nail tech roughed up my nail surface just a bit so that wasn't bad. Then she proceeded to glob a bunch of gel onto my nail, not even bothering to go all the way to the tip. But what she lacked at the tip she made up for at my cuticle. I swear I have never seen so much product pooled up in the cuticle before. Ok by this time I am really frowning and she notices, quickly reassuring ne that she will fix it. So I cured for 15 minutes, I've never had gels before but this seemed like a long time for 1 nail.

After I cured she buffed it twice and slapped one coat of polish on it and smiled. She actually said it looks natural, pretty right! I thought what in the world!

Does this look natural to you? I was extremely displeased and she knew it. I wouldn't let her fix it because I wanted to make a point of making sure that i share my experience. Its very important that you all go to reputable nail salons.

I came home and soaked for 2 hours trying to remove this ness! So now I am back to the glue. Let's hope it holds, but even if it doesn't it's better than this......

Musings Happen,
JennyKaye
- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
JennyKayehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14820299470855448388noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3650219566293593316.post-30877162766589767872010-05-17T21:02:00.000-04:002010-05-17T21:02:00.993-04:00Sweet and Sassy Violetta

My NOTD is making me quite happy today. She is making me feel sassy, vibrant and beautiful. Without further ado I bring you POP Beauty Violetta.

Violetta is a shy neon cream beauty, it was almost impossible to capture her in all her glory. I tried outside front yard and back yard I tried in front of the window and in the bathroom, yet she still failed to reveal her true self to my camera. I am still waiting for my camera to return, he said that he needed a few moments to gather himself. Can't say that I blame him.

Like most neon polishes, it dries to a very matte finish, although it's nothing that Seche Vite can't handle. Although some may like the matte finish Violetta. This is the only Pop Beauty that I own, they can be purchased on Beauty.com and CVS.com. Just little secret between us CVS.com is cheaper!

My pictures are pulling a little more pink, but in person she is definitely a strong bright purple. Think Color Club Mrs. Robinson. Although I haven't swatched Mrs. Robinson they look pretty close in a bottle comparison.
