Taste of the Queen City

Hey Ya'll!

Today Schnookie and I decided to put down the turkey and cheese sandwiches and head to Penguin for lunch.

Penguin Drive In is sort of an institution in the Queen City! They have the best burgers in the world. Five Guys doesn't even come close!

The menu is really just a prop. Schnookie already knows what he is ordering. He has been talking about Penguins for almost a week now.

It's not much to look at, but the food makes up for it.

If you are ever in the Queen City you gotta try the fried dill pickles. This was the first time that we tried them. They are fantastic just the right amount of batter and not to pickley. They come with a side of ranch for dipping. I swear it's finger licking good!

I ordered the Big Block all the way with cheese and a side of sweet potato fries. Heaven on a plate!

NOTD

Hi de ho Neighbors!

I wanted to share my NOTD which is one of the new core FingerPaints it's a pink glitter suspended in a very pale almost clear glitter.  Hue Left A Message is a great color it reminds me of Glinda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz.  I love that movie, although some parts are a little creepy!

Hue Left A Message reminded me of Glinda's gown both the color and the glitteryness (Is that a word?)

I guess you probably get my point about Glinda, so no need to continue with more pictures of her!  On to the actual pictures of my NOTD.

Application on this was typical for a glitter/jelly polish.  I used 3 very thin coats and I allowed each coat to dry almost completely before applying the next coat.  The next time I use this, I will probably use it only to layer, because even with three coats, I still have a few bald patches here and there.
Finger Paints Hue Left A Message

This is my favorite coffee mug!  I just love the slightly off polka dots.  I
think that they suite me, as most days lately I seem to be slightly off!

If Loving You Is Wrong I Don't Want To Be Right............

Hey Ya'll!

I need help.  I think that I have crossed over into no man's land, there is no coming back from where I am now.  OH well, at least my nails will be hot!

Pink Polka Dots - Ooh LaLa

Hey Everybody!

I like pink, gray and polka dots.  I mean I really love polk dots, anytime I sew I always try to include at least one polka dot fabric.  In Gouda's quilt I used three or four! Something about polka dots, make me feel all girly and cutesy.  So for today's mani, I decided to try out one of my new Nfu Oh's.

Nfu Oh 302, Color Club Pink Lust, and Scrapbooking Embossing Tool (Polka Dot maker)

It's number 302, which is the lighter of the gray creams, that I showed you all yesterday.  My only complaint about Nfu Oh's is the lack of names, polish as good as this deserves a name, I hate the numbering system!  Sorry I digress, back on topic.....  I used Color Club Pink Lust (I think, this came out of a set from Ross, which also wasn't named. GRRRRRRR!) for the polka dots.  I think that the brightness of this pink, plays nicely against the battleship gray cream of 302.  I have the sassy girly girl of the pink and the sophisticated chic of the gray, I feel very cutting edge! LOL!

Happy Earth Day from Zoya!

Hey Ya'll!

Happy Earth Day! I must admit that I haven't really done anything to celebrate Earth Day, other than put out the recyclables for the trash pick up this morning.  Ok since we are all friends here, I have another confession, I didn't do that either, Schnookie did, but I was there in spirit. LOL!

ZOYA is sponsoring the polish exchange, again this year!  I scored big time last year, and I might try to participate again this year, I'll have to see if I have some polishes to send.  All of the information can be found here ZOYA POLISH EXCHANGE.  Run don't walk to check out all of the details, this is a great time to pick up any lemmings that you may have.

Oh How I Love Thee

Hi dee ho Neighbors!

I love my mail lady!  There it's out in the open, I love her to pieces.  I feel so much better, now that I have declared my love for her openly!  She is always early when there is good stuff in the mail, most days she doesn't come until well after 3pm, but when nail goodies are on their way, she always seems to be early!  Gotta leave her something nice, soon! LOL!

Anyway, on to the haul pics!

Revlon Bubble Gum, Grape Icy (I already had these) Nfu Oh's 84, 301 and 302.
This picture is with the flash on, it's been so dreary and rainy here.

Thanks for looking!

Smelly Fingers

Hey Ya'll!

Ok so the title is a little misleading, but I do have smelly fingers. Not in an yucky gross stinky way, but in a I smell like candy way. I have been walking around smelling my fingers all day I know that I must look odd, but when I thrust my fingers under Schnookie's nose he agreed I did smell like candy.

This is Revlon Grape Icy which is one of the new scented polishes for the Spring. Application on this was ok, I needed 3 thin coats to get rid of my VNL. And yes it still smells with 2 topcoats. Although I think that it smells more like a lollipop than an icy. I also picked up Bubble Gum, which is a bright pink cream swatches to come soon.

Please excuse the photo quality it's a rainy dreary day in the Queen City. Maybe I can use this to my advantage and see if Schnookie will get me an OTT light for Mother's Day!

NOTD's

Hey Ya'll!

I have several NOTD's for you.  I didn't realize that I hadn't posted these earlier, until I found them on my camera today.  So I'll not delay any longer and move on to the pics!

Orly Pixy Stix great color for the spring.  Application was a little tricky.  The formula was
kind of thick and goopy, I love the color though, so I will add
a couple of drops of thinner next time I use it.

Orly Pixy Stix sunshine shot.

Misa Dirty Sexy Money.  While I actually liked this color, Schnookie on the other hand,
was appalled by it.  He thought that it looked, well dirty and that it wasn't flattering on me at all.  Schnookie doesn't usually comment on my nail polish choices, so I took this to heart, and I won't wear it around him.

This is today's NOTD, it's American Apparel Passport Blue and NK Mystical topcoat.  I love the irridecence of the NK it's adds such dimension and interest to the blue.  American Apparel polishes apply really well, if I had been more careful, it would have been one coat, but I was watching Divorce Court (it was juicy)!

Somebody needs to moisturize! OH BOY!

NK Mystical and American Apparel Passport Blue

I picked these two cuties up at Rite Aid the other day.  I have never seen this brand of Petites before, so I am really looking forward to trying them out.

Petites Color Fever Periwinkle and Vintage Gray

Jess Is The Best

Hello Friends,

My baby sister's birthday was on the 9th. I really had to think about whether or not I was going to post about this, because I will never hear the end if it. She will swear up and down that she is the best and deserves a post all to herself.

Just between us, she really is a great sister and aunt! But I'll plead the fifth if ever asked about it! LOL!

I'm not really sure why the frowny face in this picture.

We had a great time celebrating her birthday (weekend). Why she thinks she gets to celebrate for a full weekend, we will never know. Although she is the baby and quite spoiled, rotten even.

See what we have to live with? Gotta love her though, as I had a huge hand in making her spoiled rotten! Again I'll deny all of this in a court of law! LOL!

Wavy Curly Crimpy Do'

Hi Friends,

I just thought that I would share something new with you all.  I have been naptural for a little over 8 years (I think, my memory isn't what it used to be), my last relaxer was two days before my sister Brains graduated from UNC. GO HEELS!

Many people ask what made me decide to go naptural (combo of nappy and natural), I just got tired of the chemicals, my hair was never long and it didn't feel healthy.  I was okay with my hair not having any real length (just to my jawbone) but it really drove me nuts that it wasn't healthy.  I spent hours in the beauty salon, only to have to worry about not sweating my relaxer out, not getting my hair wet, and pretty much just limiting my activities based on my hair.  Which let me tell you if you don't already know, sucks!

Gouda has always been naptural, she is almost 12 years old and in just the past couple of weeks, have I let her flat iron her hair.  She has a beautiful thick head of hair, almost enough for two more people.  Which is sad for me since I HATE doing hair, but on the flip side of this my baby sister doesn't mind and has been taking care of it for me!  Thank goodness for her!

There I go rambling again, back to the topic at hand.

I grew my relaxer out for about 2 years, I just couldn't bring myself to do the big chop, so I wore braids and kinky twists for 2 years.  My braider is fantastic, and I love her to pieces (she does Gouda's hair now).  During those 2 years I did a lot of research and I decided on dreadlocks, dreads, locks, locs.  I have never regretted this decision, I love my locks.  I have had locks for about 6 years.  I have just come to the point in growing my locks, that I have to decide on a length.  My hair is to the middle of my back, which can make things difficult.  Eating, brushing my teeth, and turning my head suddenly have all become a challenge.  I was thinking about maybe taking 2 inches off, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Since I was doing all this thinking about the length, I hardly ever never think about my hair aside from washing and re-twisting, I began to really fall in love with my hair all over again, so I decided to do a style I haven't worn in about a year.  I braided my hair, which took a lot longer than it did a year ago and I banded it with some pretty cute bands if I do say so myself (Read I looked crazy).  The end result is kind of a wavy, curly crimpy do.

Isn't this look attractive? NOT! Can you believe that I actually left the house like this?
It was my turn to do dinner.  Gouda and I ran out to Subway to get sandwiches.  Oh yeah
my hair is not this scalpy, also not a good look.

The end result.  Gouda was the creative director for this photo.
She wanted to show the length with this pic.

A more natural pic, so that you can see the crinkles.  If I had braided my hair earlier
in the day and left the braids in longer, it would be more wavy, curly, crimpy.  One day
I may get up the stamina to roll my hair on rods.

NOTD

Hey Ya'll.

My camera is acting kind of wonky, so I wanted to go ahead and post these pictures, before I lose them.  I am trying to find a dupe for Rescue Beauty Lounge's Bangin.

I don't know why I am so obsessed with this color, it's beautiful but as a friend recently pointed out, it's RED.  While I don't have many reds in my collection, I do have a few, so I set about trying to find a dupe.  Because I don't have Bangin' I can only go by the pictures that I have seen on Make Up Alley.  I think that Nubar Rosebarry may be close, but not a dead on dupe.  I may have to make myself happy with the Nubar, because after all Bangin' is just red and $18.00.  I need to keep reciting this.......

Here's my attempt at finding a dupe.

This is 2 coats of Nubar Rosebarry and 1 coat of OPI Calendar Girl
(which is very, very sheer)

I know that Bangin' doesn't have any shimmer, but I really like Calendar Girl and thought of it as I was finishing up my mani.

A picture to show you the sheer-ness of Calendar Girl.

Staycation Sort Of?

Hey Ya'll!

Well we have kind of gotten off track with our Staycation. We have been going out everyday, but we've been going to car lots. Which as many of you know can be a stressful ordeal.

Gouda wants this car. It's beautiful but also $47k. So not going to happen.

Jilly (my PT Cruiser) has been good to us, but we just need more bang for the buck!

As you can see Gouda had a great time. Schnookie and I are exhausted, but I think we may have it narrowed down. Keep your fingers crossed!

Pretty In Pink

Hey Ya'll!

I have been in a pink mood lately. All shades of pink, baby, hot, milky, neon, you name it as long as it's pink.  It's not even just limited to nail polish, pink clothes, fabrics, yarns, it must be a spring thing!

So for my Easter mani I finally settled on OPI's Passion for NY Fashion.  It's an oldie, but goody!  It stinks all to high heaven, which I absolutely love!  I miss the smell of the preBig 3 nail polishes.  PNY does not have a prowide brush, which made me laugh gleefully out loud.  Which is rather embarrassing since I was alone, Gouda popped her head around the corner to see what I was cackling about, she just shook her head and went back to watching Nickelodeon.

I have had this polish for well over 4 maybe 5 years and I believe that I have only worn it once or twice, because I didn't think that it was a "me" shade of pink.  But as I was applying it yesterday, I made a mental note to wear this color more, because if I put modesty aside for a moment, it is SMASHING on me!  On to the pics!

Oh yeah I almost forgot, the picture of a very tiny, mini nail polish haul.  I have a few other shades, that I want to pick up, a couple from BB Couture (Overallbeauty) and a couple of Lippman Collection polishes.  After those purchases I may have to slow down, because I have my eye on some yarn that I want to start hoarding collecting crocheting new projects.

Ready For The WNBA?

Hello Friends!

Needless to say my sisters and I are extreme girly girls! Any endeavor is usually completed by a little scream or maybe yip is a better word. Schnookie says that we sometimes talk at an octave that only dogs and mice can hear. Sweating is also usually not an option, but miracles do happen from time to time.

Brains' childhood friend Bball Girl spent the day with us this past weekend. Bball Girl played basketball when she was in college so she was the only one who actually knew what she wad doing.

The girls were hype and wanted to play HORSE.

I am not really familiar with HORSE but this particular version if the game took almost an hour. That just doesn't seem right, but who knows when stuff like this happens.

Again folks, this is supposed to be HORSE not one on one play action.

Just check out this form isn't she graceful!

Later on three on three play actually erupted much like a volcano does. Schnookie and I joined in, it was not a pretty sight nor would anyone actually say that we were playing basketball. It was so unsightly that there is no picture evidence, you'll just have to take my word for it. We are not ready for the WNBA.

Staycation First Outing

Hello All!

Spring has officially sprung in the Queen City with temps in the 90's today I would say that it is more like summer.

Gouda is officially on spring break, so our staycation began today.

We were planning a trip to Indianapolis but decided that it may be better to wait until the summertime. So enter the staycation idea. We wanted to do something, but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg so we decided to tour our hometown Charlotte.

Charlotte's Trolley Transit System

On our first outing we visited Imaginon. It's a really cool Children's only library and theater. Imaginon is located uptown surrounded by fabulous little eateries.

Schnookie heading into Imaginon.

Cool Multimedia Mural inside Imaginon.

The Loft (teenager's library)

We had lunch at Reids Fine Foods which is located directly across the street from Imaginon. Reids is a great eatery, wine shop, and deli. They also carry specialty North Carolina sundries. We really enjoyed our lunch here. I am so cheesy that I am including a picture of our lunch at Reids.

Reid's Fine Foods

On overview of Reid's Fine Foods.

Our lunch plate, we all had the same thing, so cheesy!

All in all it was a terrific day. Gotta go plan another outing. I am thinking about the Zoo!
